So many times we hear stories of domestic suffering that makes our toes curl. And we ask ‘why didn’t she leave!’ ‘Why didn’t he tell somebody?’
Those who have experienced unkindness and cruelty over a long period of time will try to explain that it seemed ‘normal’, that they thought they were overreacting, that no one would listen.
This poem is a manifesto for those people. For anybody who thought they were just making a fuss, for anybody who believed their abuser when they said their was THEIR fault.
We all deserve the best we can do. We are all precious and we all have the choice to value not only ourselves but our relationships, emotions and spaces.
